NuVoodoo Omnibus Survey: The Election and the Consumer

Online voting. Laptop and notepad on red background. Election concept, place for text.

Wish you knew just a little more about your customer? Want to ask customers a few things before you make that marketing recommendation to your boss? We’re lucky here at NuVoodoo. When we want to know more, we just ask! Our clients are varied, and their needs are too. We’re happy to offer an affordable, monthly Omnibus Survey that successfully delivers more confident decision-making.

This month’s Omnibus covered several topics. First, with the election upon us, we wanted to know how everyone is feeling overall. And we asked some questions about their current habits around the economy, savings, retirement, and more. Additionally, as clients gear up their holiday sales campaigns, we also asked about consumer preference for different holiday discounting and promotions tactics. (And, as with any Omnibus, some of our questions this month were earmarked for the clients’ eyes only!)

With the election days away, it appears our concerns are front and center. Thirty percent of respondents rated “If the wrong person wins the presidential election our country is headed for disaster” as ‘Very TRUE of what I believe’. Twenty-eight percent rated “Inflation and costs will skyrocket if the wrong person wins the presidential election”. And on these notions, Democrats and Republicans agree, even if they don’t agree on who the ‘wrong person’ is. Though Democrats appear a bit more worried about the country overall while Republicans worry more about inflation and costs.

We also seem to agree on what we don’t believe as well.

Hopefully, the election fervor wears off before the holidays set in. Brands hoping to win customers over should consider their promotions and sales tactics carefully. When it comes to the most popular holiday promotion and sales tactic, there’s a clear winner; forty-two percent of respondents ‘Completely Like/ Prefer’ Free Shipping on All Purchases. The next most popular promotion/sales tactics were:

‘Buy one (or more) and get one of the same items for free = 29.4%
Free Shipping with Minimum Purchase = 28.8%
Loyalty/ Rewards Programs 28.6%
Percentage off total purchase 28.3%

The least popular promotion/sales tactics were Social Media Exclusive Discounts, Discounts for your Phone Number, and Retailer Mail-in Rebates for Retailer ‘Bucks’.
